Intersectionality, as an approach, does not treat identity categories like class,race, gender, age, and sexuality as isolated and detached aspects of the self, but neither does it see each one as simply an attempt to add one category to another in a cumulative fashion, but rather to study the way that they intersect.

- is dynamic - always changing
- is often contradictory
Criticism of this analogy is that your 'club membership' can change. Sometimes by choice and sometimes forced.
