Analysis and Design of Web Pages
End-User Groups
End-users are groups of people who will use your website. The web developer should know who their target audience is and design their website for that group of people.
Common end-users include:
Young Children
Employees with specific needs
Customers/clients
Inexperienced users
Skilled and expert users
Users who require additional features to aid acessibility
Users with learning difficulties or disabilities
Users who require voice recognition integration
Users who require specialised output such as screen readers
Functional Requirements
Functional Requirements are categorised into two groups:
Processes- the website must be able to carry out
Interaction with databases/information- that the website needs to have access to in order to function properly
Design
When designing a website you need to consider the following:
Navigation
There are two types of navigation structure:
Linear
A linear structure moves from page to page in sequence. e.g page1-page2-page3 etc
Hierarchical
Hierarchical structures are accessed depending on their position in the hierarchy. (Looks like a structure diagram) eg.Home page- Page1- Page1.1- page1.2 etc
Legal implications
Copyright, Designs and Patent Act 1988
This act was introduced to protect work produced by other people. When developing a website we need to consider copyrighted;
Text
Graphics
Video
Audio
Wire-framing
Wireframes are used to design the layout of a website. they should show:
Navigational Links
Text areas
Media used (including file format)
Position and type of hyperlinks on a page
Low Fidelity Prototyping
Wireframes are passed to graphic designers to replicate the layout of the website. A low fidelity prototype is created using pen and paper. The prototype is shown to the end-user and they will give feedback on the layout. the prototypes usually contain more detail than a wireframe.
