Assessments to Track Progress

Instruction Activity
Color Mixing -mixing two colors together and answering, what happens? How did it change?
After they mix a color, challenge them to identify an object, animal, or plant that is that color and have them paint it.
Shades (MA)
Instruction Activities
Give student a dark color of paint and white paint. Have them mix the colors together. Talk about what happened. How did the colors change. Have them identify "light" vs. "dark" colors. Then have them sponge paint a paper using dark and light paint and adding on other objects varying in shade.
Once students show understanding of light and dark apply it to nature, asking them when is the sky dark, when is it light? Day vs. Night. Use a video to do a nighttime role-play and go outside and look at the sky in the daytime.

Have the students explain the collage they made.
Challenge students to find light and dark toys around the classroom.

Instruction Activities
Color Sorting into boxes - give them an object ask them to verbally identify the color and put it in the box. Have peers and teacher support as needed.
Watch videos and songs that discuss colors in more detail and put quiz questions throughout such as "choose the red object". Use edpuzzle to create the quizzes and videos.
When appropriate beginning adding in dark and light colors to help students begin to recognize different shades.
Assessments to Track Progress
Draw - have students draw a picture and identify the different colors that they are using. Identify the specific colors that individuals are struggling with.
Edpuzzle - quiz results see how students are performing and make quizzes easier or harder as needed. Identify specific colors that the group is struggling with.
Checklist - checking which colors which students can identify in the sorting activity. Checking new colors as they learn and identify them.
