Process
Naturalisation Process
- Singapore Citizenship e-Journey: allows citizens to learn at their own pace and time abt SG's history and culture
- Singapore Experiential Tour: half-day tour which allows new citizens to visit historical landmarks and learn more abt SG's development and national challenges
- Community Sharing Sessions: new citizens reflect on their citizenship journey, share hopes for SG, meet other new citizens and learn how to participate actively in the community
Community Support
NIC launched the Community Integration Fund (CIF) in Sept 2009 to support organisations who want to implement ground-up intergration initiatives ($9.4 million dollars i 2014); eg. moblie app 'SG Sauce' provides users with information about the SG lifestyle
block parties, festive celebrations at community clubs can be organised to help immigrants adapt to life in SG; new immigrants can also serve as Integration and Naturalisation Champions (INCs) to help the other new citizens and invite them to events and activities; helping to alleviate the anxiety faced by them when adjusting to SG
Common Experiences
National Service: brings all male SG citizens and PRs together regardless of racial, religious, language and educational backgrounds for a span of 2 years. helps them to develop sense of collective interest above self, to foster greater cohesiveness among people and create a stronger national identity. new citizens choosing to serve NS would be a critical marker of integration since it shows that they are embracing this rite of passage for SG males and their families
