the church taught sin was sent by god to clean the soul or to test faith and that only god could cure them
Hippocrates therefore believed that the body was made up of four humors (liquids). The four humors were blood, phlegm, black bile, and choler (yellow bile) and Hippocrates taught that if unbalanced could cause disease and illness

Louis pasture published his theory of germs and proved that micro-organisms were present in the air and that they caused decay.
the idea of miasma ta continued well into 1800s even though Louis pasture had published his correct germ theory this is because it made ore sense to people because poor people in poor conditions caught diseases more often then those who were rich.
just like in the renaissance people fell back to religion and believed that disease was god punishing those with sin
by the 20th century most people had accepted Louis pastures germ theory and spontaneous generation and Miasma: were disproved and beliefs that god caused disease had been eradicated by the 20th century
galen was important as he kept hypocrates ideas about the cause of disease and the anatomy of the body alive and The Medieval Church liked Galen's ideas because they agreed with the teachings of the Christian Church.

Thomas sydenham was important because he defied the church and went against their medicine and developed the theory that disease not personal to the patient and was even able to identify that else and scarlet fever were from different microbes,Sydenham played a huge role in moving medicine away from the ideas of Galen and Hippocrates.
