Effects of Mass Media on Modern Society
Social
With media, there are TV shows, movies, anything entertainment really.
We see movie stars pull off different personas, pull off ludicrous stunts and much more in front of the silver screen, and sometimes, a few others are motivated to become like them in the movies (despite how ridiculous it can be).
Teenagers will use firearms similar to their favourite movie stars, the constant exposure of which would seduce the teen to replicate the same behaviour in real life.
Many images of violence and harm caused to fictional characters can become traumatic especially in our children as they see it more and more.
Build youth with the wrong mentality
Commercial Purposes
Has a significant influence on public opinion and contributes strongly to forming companies' corporate reputation
Larger companies, with good reputations and oriented to mass consumption, have more visibility in newspapers
Better visibility = increased business and reputation
Plays an important role in developing corporate visibility
Politics
Spreading propagandas
Modern-day totalitarian nations
Citizens of North Korea are made to believe that their leader, Kim Jong-un, is akin to that of a god, and for that, he is worshipped and his every action is praised and unquestioned by anyone.
Mass media doesn’t always use influence to alter people’s beliefs - sometimes they just force their message down on them outright until it is drilled into their skulls. It is said that if they are subjected to the same message over and over again, their objections soon become obligations, and they will follow exactly what the message portrays. This became known as ‘propaganda’
media will always have their fair share of bias one way or another (no one can really be on the neutral side in times like these)
Introduction
Modern media today plays a very pivotal and important role in the world of mass communication.
Mass media has always been known to influence and persuade those to have differing opinions compared to their previous beliefs.
Many reasons occur which allow this to happen
Political Reasons
Commercial Purposes
Social Reasons
Conclusion
Mass media while playing an important role in modern society in terms of communication, still plays a very dangerous and influential role as well. All it takes is the media to say one thing, and it won’t be long before the rest of the world follows it if they are to believe it.
