Kenny the Kicker
Tier 1 Interventions
Academic Data Tracking will be implemented for 9 weeks; partially concurrent with the Behavioral Data Tracking. Parents will receive this data on a weekly basis as a general overview of how Kenny is doing in each of his classes. Also included, as applicable, will be assessment data. This data will be provided so that parents are able to see progression or trends in performance. The focus will not be on poor performance or grades, but rather in overall progression to academic success. Setbacks will be noted, but only when planning how to comeback from a setback.

Academic Data Tracking at this level will commence for an additional 9 weeks.
Parents will receive a daily report the general academic progress of their student as to provide a more immediate form of feedback from teachers.
The focus will be on what can be done in the day to day to keep Kenny on track academically. This will provide him with an opportunity to experience small academic successes on a daily basis.

Behavior Data Tracking will still be implemented for Kenny and his parents will receive weekly communication concerning it. However, the behavior monitoring will now be in the form of an FBA so that teachers may collect data for analysis.
This data collection will take place for about 6-8 weeks.
Academic Data Tracking will also continue with data being collected for analyzing. Although Kenny struggles most in math, data collection will take place in all core subjects to make sure there are not other areas of support that need to be addressed.
Parents will continue to receive academic overviews on a weekly basis. The lines in communication will continue to be open, as parents will have the ultimate say-so for referral of services.
This data collection will take place for about 6 - 8 weeks.
A Case for Kenny:
Kenny is an 8th grade student who has just returned from an alternative school placement, due to a long term suspension for fighting with another student. Kenny is prone to outbursts in class and has been identified as a student with an oppositional defiant disorder. He has difficulty working in groups; kicking other students, talking out of turn, and ignoring directions. His grades are either “D” or not passing, even though he has excellent reading comprehension skills, and has passed his math state assessment test at the “advanced proficiency level.”
