module 51
development is lifelong
preconventional(before age 9)=self interest, obey the rules and avoid punishment or gain concrete rewards
conventional morality (early adolescence) = uphold laws and rules to maintain social approval or maintain social order
postconventional(adolescence and beyond) = actions reflect belief in basic rights and self defined ethical principles
in some cultures adolescence hardly exists, because the teenagers are self-supporting
teens experience pruning, "use it or loose it"
increasing myelin, fatty tissue around axons and speeds up neural transmission = better communication in the brain
during teenage years, we are more prone to make bad decisions because our brains are developing
-
Ask; yes, I would think out the outcomes that would happen if I made certain choices today.
Test; Kohlberg's preconventional morality focuses on self - interest, postconventional morality focuses on self- defined ethical principles, and conventional morality focuses on upholding laws and social rules.
Kohlberg's theory focuses on the individual and not the cultural perspective so his theory might not be completely correct because of different cultures ways.

module 52
-
IDENTITY = our sense of self (erikson) the adolescence' task to solidify a sense of self by testing and integrating various roles
SOCIAL IDENTITY = the "we" aspect of our self- cocept, the part of our answer to "who am I?" that comes from our group of memberships
-
INTIMACY = (erikson) the ability to form close, loving relationships, primary developmental task in young adulthood
teens drift away from their parents and begin to form their own identity.
for adolescence peer approval matters.
EMERGING ADULTHOOD= a period from about age 18 to the mid- twenties, when many in western cultures are no longer adolescents but have not yet achieved full independence as adults.
Ask; I have been influenced by cultural context mostly, for example, my religion. But my inborn traits such as my characteristics have effected me also.
Test; the transition from adolescence to adulthood has grown larger, now people are taking more time to finish school and get married, this is taking 14 years instead of 7 years that was apparent in 1890.
