"They stare at each other. Then they came together with low, animal moans" (pg.44 Scene 2)
Character
Stella
“Oh you can’t describe someone you’re in love [with!”] (scene 1) - Stella is infatuated with him that she recognizes her own bias if she were to explain him to people.
"He's really very very ashamed of it....No, it isn't all right for anybody to make such a terrible row, but - people do sometimes. Stanley's always smashed things" (pg.47 Scene 4) - Stella doesn't leave him because she believes that he's truly "sorry" and that it wont happen again. She is so badly in love with him that she is willing to excuse his actions
“And when he comes back I cry on his lap like a baby”
(scene 1) - Very attached to him, longs for him constantly. She can't function without him
There are things that happen between a man and a women in the dark - that sort of make everything else seem - unimportant ( pg. 53 Scene 4) - Stella is attracted to Stanleys sexual nature. Even Blanche recognizes this in her response "that's just brutal desire". She's trying to tell Stella that what they have isn't love just pure passion.
Stanley
“You’re simple. Straightforward and honest and a little bit on the primitive side"
pg.25 (scene 2) - What makes Stanley desirable
"If I didn't know what you was my wife's sister I'd get ideas about you" pg.26 (scene 2) - He's recognizing Blanches sexual nature. He would pursue her if she wasn't his sister in law
"He acts like an animal , has an animals habits!" (pg.54 Scene 4)
Animalistic desires
"God, honey, it's gonna be sweet when we can make noise in the night the way that we used to" (pg.90 Scene 8) Stanley feels like Blanche is a disruption between his relationship with Stella. He feels like they don't desire each other like they used to
Scene 10 Stanley says "Oh! So you want some rough-house! All right, let's have some rough-house!"
Blanche
"I took the trip as an investment, thinking I'd meet someone with a million dollars" (pg.50 Scene 4)
- Blanche desires a man with money. She is very materialistic and so she seeks a partner that can full-fill her materialistic and expensive needs
"I want his respect" (pg.62 Scene 5) - In contrast to her sister, Blanche seeks to be treated with fairness and respect. She is someone who desires it before she is committed.
"That one seems- superior to others" "I thought he had a sort of sensitive look" (pg.34 Scene 3) Blanche goes against traditional masculinity and makes a comment about how a man that is sensitive is "superior" to others not like him.
"It was like you suddenly turned a blinding light on something that had always been half a shadow" (pg.75 Scene 6) Blanche is talking sweetly about her dead husband.
-
"Yes I had many intimacies with strangers. After the death of Allan - the intimacies with strangers was all I seemed able to fill my empty head with" (pg.100 Scene 9) traumatic experiences with Allan lead Blanche to become lustful and seek "love" in many men. Her traumatic experience with Alan led her to spiral out of control and seek "love" through sex, which ultimately destroys her reputation.
Mitch
"Just give me a slap whenever I step out of bounds" (pg.72 Scene 6) Stanley and Mitch contrast each other in their values about sex and desire. Mitch is respectable, he doesn't pursue women in an animalistic way. He allows Blanche to draw the bounds
(pg. 34 Scene 3) Mitch is described as someone with a "sensitive look". This directly contrasts Stanleys actions earlier who slapped Stella's hips
"I'll kill you!" (pg.122 Scene 11) Mitch is either angry hearing about Stanley hurting Blanche or is angry about sending her away. Either way, Mitch is angry about her treatment and thus cares about her.
"I dont think I want to marry you anymore.. dropping his hands from her waist" (Pg.103 Scene 9) Mitch no . longer wants to be responsible for Blanche in marriage, he only wants to have sex with her
Things Left Uncertain

Does this book end with Stanley and Blanche ending on good terms? I wonder if they become friends at the end
Symbols
“She sprays herself with the atomizer; then playfully sprays him with it”
(scene 2) - The perfume can be seen as something flirty, sexy.
"Will you -- have a drink?" , " "but don't take another drink" (pg.63-64 Scene 5 ) Alcohol is a symbol for sex/desire. It is seen as something that can lead to hasty decisions. In this case Stella is telling Blanche to not drink so that she doesn't have sex with Mitch. In another part Blanche has too much to drink and trys to seduce a young man on the street.
"The "blue piano" goes softly. She turns confusedly and makes a faint gesture. The inhuman jungle voices rise up. He takes a step toward her, biting his tongue which protrudes between his lips." Music correlates with sexual desire. The blue piano is a cue to desire. Stanley is unable to control his sexual desire
Setting
"He crosses through drapes with a smoldering group" pg.24 (scene 2) - setting is intimate. Only a cloth divides Stanley and Blanch when she undresses.
