The money that was collected by this act helped pay the costs of the British soldiers who were in America protecting the border. The colonists boycotted the british goods to get the Stamp Act cancelled.
Townshend Act (1767)
After the stamp act was revoked, a man named Charles Townshend forced an tax on items like lead, glass, paper and tea. Townshend hoped that the colonists wouldn’t realise the increase of price. The sea ports were place where the indirect tax was collected before the items actually reached colonial stores. As the tax was already included in the price when the colonists went to buy things. Later on, the colonists did recognize the indirect tax and once again boycotted British goods
