The pursuit of raw materials in Africa drove countries to make colonization attempts. Notable clashes include that of Britain and France over Sudan in 1898 and Germany and France for Morocco in 1905.
Germany in the 20th century had the strongest military force, quickly causing France to develop their military. When Germany sought ship building programs, Britain responded by trying to top them. This pattern continued and the insecurity caused countries to find allies
Nationalism movements surged when allies were made. Groups in Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire all have strong nationalistic groups.
Public View of War
Public view of war was changes, and many people began to consider it human nature. Propaganda often showcased war as honorable and a duty to serve.

New developments
Trench Warfare began to progress due to the development of automatic weapons. Before this wars were fought in close proximity.
More developed guns that can fire hundreds of rounds.
Airplanes were used and improved upon. A quote from the video we watched states "Soldiers came in riding horses and left flying airplanes."
World War One Was known as the "First scientific war"
Chemical warfare started to be used. This entailed war with gas, usually presented as a simple a cloud of haze that made it very difficult to invent technology to prevent against poison gas. Technology was made to be destructive.
Development on submarines occurred during WW1.
Tanks started to be used.

A league of nations should be created. This point actually sparked the inspiration for the United Nations
Wilson also addressed a number of changes to independence and standings of countries. He demanded that Balkan states should be given independence.
All countries should be equal. This point was revolutionary due to the fact that even during that time countries were definitely not equal. :

The Bolsheviks began their rein in Russia. Countries that had a more fascist rule also triumphed (Italy and Germany).
European countries were in debt. Even countries that fought for the side that won the war were left in debt because most of the war was fought in Europe (For example, France).
Influenza began to spread throughout the entire world
Women gained more career opportunities due to the war.
The league of nations (present day United Nations) was caused by the war
The US was one of the only countries involved in the war that was not completely debt stricken.
