Technology
Trench Warfare
Trench warfare was pioneered in WWI, because people needed to take cover from fully automated machine guns and turrets.
Weaponry
Machine guns were one of the main points of tension in the war. They necessitated the use of trench warfare in WWI
Chemical Warfare
Gas attacks like chlorine gas caused enemies to drown from the inside out. Many soldiers lacked gas masks, making them targets
Planes
People rode into battle on horses, which was standard at the time, and because technology was so advanced, they left on planes.
Causes
Assassinating the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand in 1914.
This caused turmoil between Austria Hungary and Serbia,
which is largely credited to the start of the war.
There was an Arms race between France and Russia, both going against Germany. This created increased tension at borders until the catalyst of Franz Ferdinands assassination.
Another Cause can be chalked up to the imperialist attitude of Europe at the time of the war. Many countries were constantly expanding and even took over most of Africa. There was conflict at borders, and people were conflicted on which nation got with territory. This ultimately fueled into a war.
Woodrow Wilson's 14 Points
One of the main themes in the 14 points was to be open. Countries would no longer have secrets, the oceans would be open, trade would be open as well. There would also have been a worldwide reduction in weapons and armies by all countries.
This plan clearly didn't work. It was rejected because certain countries thought it didn't benefit them. The countries such as Austria Hungary were to be split up, which obviously upset those specific countries.
Woodrow Wilson's 14 points were written by Wilson to try to create world peace. They were proposed to Congress by President Wilson in order to be utilized as the basis for peace negotiations at the end of the war.
