Achievable – Appropriate and realistic for the performer to achieve so as to maintain motivation. Goals that are too easy to achieve can be demotivating. Goals that are negotiated with a coach give more ownership over an achievement and are most realistic.
Recorded – Agreed goals are written down so that they can be monitored and ticked off when achieved to motivate performers towards the next goal.
Time Phased – Goals should be broken in to short term goals that help a long term goal to be achieved. This ensures goals remain realistic and achievable. This also helps control levels of arousal and anxiety.
