Pressure Systems
Depressions
Characteristics
Formation of depression:depression is caused by ascending and descending air. As air warms, it ascends leading to low pressure at the surface.
-
Wet
when warm air meets cold air, warm air is pushed up to cool, condense, and precipitates (rainfall)
Temperature
warm sector brings warmer temperatures, cold sector brings colder temperatures
-
anticyclones
Formation: created by descending warm air devoid of moisture. The absence of the moisture makes the dry air denser than an equal quantity of air with moisture. When it displaces the heavier nitrogen and oxygen, it causes an anticyclone.
