Barriers to Inclusive Education
Physical barriers
Schools may lack of facilities or resources
Local government may lack funding
First, we must answer:
What are the Benefits of Inclusive Education?
Both students with and without special needs can succeed in the inclusive classroom and the learning process is more engaged for all students.
Creates an open dialogue and understanding of students who are different than others and instills and encourages respect for all people no matter their differences.
What, is Inclusive Education?
Education of all students, regardless of disabilities, within the mainstream classroom; instead of being segregated in to special education classrooms.
Attitudes
Of teachers and administrators
prejudices and discrimination
Teachers
may be untrained or unwilling to work with students' disabilities and promote inclusion
Curriculum
Rigidity is not conducive for experimental methods of instruction.
Language
English learners being taught in unfamiliar language
Some students may be nonverbal

Socio-Economic Issues
Low-income areas tend to have schools that reflect the poverty in the community, increasing the difficulties for traditional students let alone those with disabilities.
Funding
Many schools lack funding needed for resources, training, and accommodations.
Policies
Ignorance surrounding the benefits of inclusive classrooms prevent policy makers from understanding its importance and making any changes.
Organization
decision-makers and stakeholders care more about compliance and not the quality of education
unaware of the realities teachers face
The Issue with Barriers
Kind of self-explanatory, but barriers are the reasons and things that keep schools from being able to provide the best inclusive education possible.
What are some solutions?
Block scheduling to allow for more planning time
Professional Development Days to give teachers the training they need
Leveled Library with access to all to bring a better access to materials needed.
Pooling funds together or generalizing educational resources can help with the financial struggles
To combat unwanted attitudes, encourage inclusion throughout the school by creating a support team for inclusion
Use the UDL to break down curriculum barriers and provide multiple ways of accessing information
