EBP for Innovation in Organizations
(HCINNOV 7780)
Using EBP to Measure Innovation Is Vital
What impact are we making? Using validated measurement tools we can demonstrate sustainability of projects and improve organizational culture. It allows us to promote what is good and prune what is bad.
Evidence is Necessary for Justifying Change
Using evidence in practice is the best way to convince stakeholders that change is not only possible but also necessary. Then "numbers speak for themselves" there is little convincing to be done.
Measuring the impact of my capstone project will be of upmost importance for a couple different reasons:
1) Sustainability
2) Identifying areas for high impact change
3) Justifying to leadership
High Performance Organizations
(HCINNOV 7440)
Innovation must have both a cultural presence and a physical presence
Having a physical "innovation center" goes a long way to making innovation tangible. It spurs questions and inspires people to use resources.
Ask Hard Questions About Impact - and Measure It!
Without metrics there is no way to identify what is working and what needs to change. Not only assessing the culture of innovation but also quantifying the impacts innovations are having is vital to long term success.
Innovation within an organization doesn't mean it has to be a novel idea.
Applying information from other high performing innovative organizations might be the best course of action. Identifying long-term innovation goals and replicating the strategy of another organization, learning from it's successes and failures, could be a start to a great thing.
What other organizations are doing what I want to do?
Finding leaders in innovation that have had success, modeling after them and learning from their mistakes will be vital.
Culture of Innovation in Healthcare Organizations
(HCINNOV 7442)
Be Comfortable with the Uncomfortable
No change happens comfortably, and that the act of change must, by definition, also entail an act of destruction. Believing that the current course of action is the best, or only, course of action is a sure way to stifle innovation.
Micromanagement limits innovation because it limits decision making power and eliminates the process of trying-failing-learning in employees. In most cases,
senior leaders should not do more, but should do less, and thus give subordinates more freedom to innovate.
Innovative Companies Invest in Innovation
regularly rewarding innovative thinking with positive reinforcements will benefit a company in many ways, least of which is encouraging more innovation.
Funding
How will I find and convince investor that my innovation is worth it? What stakeholders have to be on board for success?
