election systerms
STV
single transferable vote. it is used in Northern Ireland due to the Good Friday agreement. it is when voters list the order of which party they want to win. if the first party doesn't win it will move down the list until a party wins.
SV
supplementary vote. used to elect the mayor of Londen. people vote for two candidates, if no one gets 50% the two in the lead remain while to others are removed. if any second votes remain in the race they go towards a candidate. the one with the most votes wins.
AMS
Additional Member System. it is a hybrid system where people get two votes, one for a candidate and one for the party. The vote of the candidate is the candidate you want to represent your area, while the party vote is proportional representation where the percentage of votes a party is the percentage of seats they receive. it is used to vote the Scottish assembly
FPTP
first past the vote. votes go towards a candidate that represents a political party. the more candidates that win the more seats are gained. the more seats a party has the more power it has. to win a party need 51% of the seats. used in westminister
