ACTION AND NON-ACTION/STATIVE VERBS
a)Action verbs: verbs which describe actions. Used in Present Simple and Present Continuous
b)Non-action verbs: verbs which describe states or feelings. Used in Present Simple.
The most common ones:
-Senses: see, hear, smell, taste.
-Thoughts: agree, believe, know, mean, mind, realize, recognize, seem, suppose, think, understand, and want.
-Emotions: like / dislike - love / hate – prefer.
-Others: be, belong, cost, depend, forget, matter, need, own.
c)Action and non-action verbs:
-HAVE: I have a big flat TINC UN PIS GRAN = possession (non-action) / I can’t talk now. I’m having lunch NO PUC PARLAR ARA ESTIC DINANT = an activity (action)
-SEE: I can see your house from here / I'm seeing Paul tonight PUC VEURE CASA TEVA DES D'AQUÍ / VAIG A VEURE AL PAUL AQUESTA NIT
-THINK: I think Barça is the best team PENSO QUE EL BARÇA ÉS EL MILLOR EQUIP (non-action, my opinion) / What are you thinking about? EN QUE ESTÀS PENSANT? (action)
