Colonialism played a key role in knitting together economies of widely separated area, which gave birth to the world economy. Wealth is distributed unevenly around the world, so it is not enough to simply study each country, their resources, and production of goods. Instead, one must look at the global picture. World economy is like a pointillist painting; one must look at the large picture, not every individual dot. In order to do this, we need to change scale.
