To give the reader a clear idea of what a research will cover
To give a description of the problem that will be addressed
Steps in writing Introduction
Establish a niche by Indicating a weakness (paragraphs 3 & 4)
Indicating a gap in the previous research, raising a question about it or extending previous knowledge in some way (obligatory).
Occupy the niche (paragraph 5)
Outlining the purposes or stating the nature of the present research (obligatory)
Listing research questions or hypotheses to be tested (optional)
Announcing the principal findings (optional)
Provide support for a particular finding or theory by seeking to resolve and explain it
Establishing a research territory (paragraphs 1 & 2 )
Showing that the general research area is important, central, interesting, problematic or relevant in some way (optional)
