Appearence

This is a SMEG jug kettle with a unique design from the famous Italian designer brand "Dolce & Gabbana". as the product is a collaboration it is made limited edition.

other colours can be purchased at a cheaper price. the colours are light pink, baby blue, silver, gloss black and cream

The kettle has a shape of a jug, which makes it easier to pour the water

The kettle has water markings every 0.5 litres and until the the max (1.7 litres). it also shows how many cups someone can fill if the user does not know the exact required amount they need

The body is made from stainless steel, this can be potential hazard when the kettle is boiled as the body will get very hot

The spout is angled to allow pouring without causing splashes. Fairly easy to direct water into a cup

A narrow spout is difficult to use to fill the kettle as water is often spilled.

Non-cordless meaning that the kettle is not isolated from the mains power when lifted making it a hazard when filling over a sink

the handle is protected by a thermoset polymer so that the handle does not conduct heat from the body. Only part of the handle is like this though, the rest is made of steel so that it still looks and feels luxurious

The lid is positioned on top of the kettle with push button to open it to aid flipping of the lid and filling

The large handle has plenty of finger space making it easy to grip. it is side mounted making pouring easier with comfortable wrist position and no risk of steam going over the hand or body

its weight is 1.6 kg so it is about perfect weight for the user to be able to lift without struggling

Cost

The price of this product is £499.95

As this is a collaboration the product would cost more to make as a unique design has been used and the other company would also get paid

The product is made of mainly steel making it much more expensive than the polymer made kettles

The other versions of this kettle are much lower in price at £120

This kettle is one of the expensive in the market and as kettle is not really a trendy item many customers may not purchase the product, meaning that there may not be as many sales as expected

Paying nearly £500 for a kettle would not be worth it as a kettle of £30 would do the same exact job

Customers

this product is aimed at wealthy customers as the product is very high-end and its price is very high, which a university student for example would not pay for

Customers with an eye for fashion and elite brands may be interested in the product because of the "Dolce & Gabbana" collaboration

Customers who drink tea and want to show off as they would have a unique kettle that most others will not have

Environment

This product can be maintained but some parts may not be repaired

A LCA would need to be carried out to see all environmental impacts

This product is mainly made of steel which is made from iron and carbon. extracting iron from its ore can cause air pollution, affect water quality and biological species

The kettle has concealed element which makes cleaning the kettle easier

The anti-limescale filter is the mesh filter that is typically found in the spout, and is particularly essential if you live in an area with hard water. It should be easy to remove for cleaning, and the mesh should be fine enough and fit well to stop any limescale getting into your cup

Size

H24.8cm x W17.1cm x D22.6cm

This size is suitable to fit on a kitchen workshop

It has a wide surface area at the base balanced by 4 "legs" to prevent the kettle from tipping over

The capacity of this kettle is 1.7 litres which is the average UK size for a kettle

Safety

Automatic shut-off turns the kettle off as soon as the water starts boiling (at 100°C)

Boil-dry protection automatically turns the kettle off if no water is sensed inside the kettle

non slip feet make sure that the kettle does not slip even if the surface may be abit wet or even if it is a very smooth surface like marble

Function

The purpose of the product is to simply boil water

The ON/OFF starts or stops the boiling process. When the kettle is on the LED turns white

The filter can be cleaned by opening the lid and taking the filter out and then wash it

Materials

The main material of this product is steel as it gives a nice shine making the product look very luxurious

Using a polymer would have been cheaper but the product would have had a cheaper look, killing the whole point of this high end product.

Carbon Fibre would not suit a high end kettle aimed for older generation

In the factory, the sheet steel is mechanically placed in the die of a punch press
