Take-a-Break (TaB)
WHAT IS TaB?
When you stop what you are doing, go to a safe space, reflect on your actions, and think about how you can change your feelings and behavior.
WHAT IS A SAFE SPACE?
A safe space is a corner of a room with cushions, stress balls, and guidelines on how to calm down and regain control of your feelings.
-
It is a quiet and independent space, but you can still see what is going on in the classroom.
-
-
WHO SHOULD TaB?
Someone who disrespects the teacher, classmates, or any other classroom rules and expectations.
-
Remember, TaB does not work for every student and every situation. Sometimes students need a different method, and sometimes the student's feelings could already be out of control.
-
WHEN SHOULD YOU TaB?
When you are feeling frustrated or overwhelmed about something and need to try to control your feelings.
-
Before introducing take-a-break, there needs to be an explanation, discussion, and practice for classroom rules and expectations. The rules should be clearly displayed somewhere in the classroom as a reminder.
