CNS
-
Major Parts of Brain
-
Cerebrum: largest portion, holds most info
-
-
Action Potential
- Strong enough stimulation or nerve impulses causes Na+ gates to open and rush into cell causing depolarization
- If strong enough, depolarization occurs, threshold potential is reached and impulse is sent down axon
- Nerve impulses are transmitted
- K+ rush out of neuron after Na+ rush in, which cause a repolarization of the membrane back to resting potential
Major Functions
Integrative
it analyze sensory information, stores some aspects, and makes decisions regarding appropriate behaviors

Neurons
Classification
-
unipolar: just one process and are always sensory neurons; axon terminals are in CNS and cell bodies in ganglia
-
Functional
Sensory/afferent neurons: transmitsensory impulses (toward CNS)
- specialized receptor ends at tips of dendrites or ones in contact with specialized receptor cells in skin or sense organs

Names of All Lobes
Cerebrum
-
Parietal: top sides
receive impulses for touch, pain, temp., and proprioception
Frontal: forehead
controls voluntary actions of specific muscles or groups of muscles on the opposite sides of the body
