Pale- Poor perfusion, seen in patients with circulatory collapse, haemorrhage, anaemia or sevre vasoconstruction.
Red- ('congested') indicate sepsis, fever, congestion, extensive tissue damage or excitement.
Blue or purple- (cyanosis) indicate severe hypoxaemia (lack of oxygen) caused by resp difficulties, immediate action must be taken.
Yellow- (icterus/jaundice) may be due to liver disease, bile flow obstruction, increase in blood cell destruction and circulating bilirubin. Can be neonatal isoerythrolysis in foals. Horses at grass may have icteric gums which is normal.

Chocolate brown- Dogs and cats indicate paracetamol poisoning. Cats cant metabolise paracetamole and therefor can happen with low dosages.

Cachexic pateints- sunken eyes within the orbit, dehydrated or muscle wastage
Exophthalmos- Abnormal protusion of the globe. Proptosis is the prolapse of the globe and needs veterinary attention immediatly to preserve the eye.
Conjunctivitis- Discharge of the eye. Bacterial, fungal or parasitic infection.

Anisocoria- unequal pupils, could be an indication of abnormal neurological signs.

Submandibular, prescapular and popliteal lymph nodes can be normally located on dogs and cats.
