RileyDillonUrinarySystem
-
filtration: glomerulus ( collection of fenestrated capillaries) - blood is pushed through into the capsular space
-
-
-
structure of a nephron: renal corpuscle and kidney tubule, structural and functional unit of the kidney
renal corpuscle
glomerulus- millions in each kidney, collection of fenestration capillaries
renal tubule
proximal convoluted tubule: proximal to glomerulus, twisted shape, and its a tubule
-
distal convoluted tubule: connects to the collecting duct, distal to glomerulus
cortical nephrons: mostly in the cortex, 85% of all nnephrons are this type
juxtamedullary nephron: the glomerulus is closer to the medulla- makes it possible to concentrate urine. very long nephron loop
collection duct: where water can be reabsorbed, vasopressin- antidiretic from the posterior pituitary (hypothalamus)
urinary tract
ureters: two of them, retro-peritoneal
urinary bladder: detruster muscle- thrust down to squeeze urine out of the urethra. (males have longer urethras)
