Digital Interactivity
Concepts in New Media
"Accidental Universe"
Communication is no longer direct, it is all through our digital world
"Mastering Memory"
We are too dependent on our devices to help us remember and record things.
"Google Knowing"
We rely on the accessibility of Google to give us all our answers, and information we need.
"Our Digital Form of Life"
How technology controls our knowledge. Yet, how much “knowledge” can really be learned from these devices. Neuromedia: is described as miniature smartphones having the ability to hook into a person’s brain and give or access information on any subject at any time.
Connected but Alone
Sherry Turkle
We use technology so much when we are with people. are we really there? We are connected to everyone through our technology, or our virtual reality, we forget to be present.
Approaches to New Media

Poundstone: we forget things because we know there is an easy way to retrieve the m (The Google Effect)
Shirky: Believes people are stuck in their "old ways" and think technology will ruin people
Bored & Brilliant
We turn to our technology too much when we are bored. We have to start embracing boredom as studies shows that is when we can be most creative.
The Social Network
Shows how popular social media site "Facebook" came to be. It shows how technology can ruin your life.
Video Games & Violence
Why Online Games Make Players Act Like Psychopaths :People act the way they do in video games in response to them losing a life or messing up. They act angry and crazy because they know they won't be punished virtually.
How Gaming relates to Your IRL Decisions
Games, Learning, and Literacy
Games actually enhance skills. Skills that aren't tested in school settings, but normal everyday, decision-making skills. Even schools have transitioned to online learning tactics.
Virtual/Augmented Reality
This is a technological advancement that allows people to interact with real-life environments, and places all stimulated on to a headset.
Higher Education
"The Digital Degree"- The cost of attending a four year university is a lot for some people, so they turn to online courses and in turn online degrees.
"Higher Education is not a Mixtape"- People believe education, and teacher to student learning will die out because of technology. If a school does not have a connection to technology it is out dated and behind. Education, though, will never die out due to technology. It will most likely enhance it.
