Plot: Once the suitors are sleeping, hide all the weapons as they planned. After they have hidden all the weapons Telemachus goes to bed, and the disguised Odysseus is joined by Penelope. She questions him about Odysseus, and he answers everything correctly, and then tells the story of how he met Odysseus, and how he came to Ithaca. He informs Penelope that Odysseus is alive and well, and should be back within the month. Penelope offers him a bed which he declines, but grudgingly lets Eurycleia wash his feet. While she washes them, she notices a scar which she recognizes as the one Odysseus received on a boar hunt long ago. She is overjoyed that they have been reunited, but Odysseus makes her promise to keep his secret for the time being. Before going to bed herself, Penelope speaks to Odysseus about a dream that involved an eagle killing a group of geese and then speaking to her in a human voice that he was Odysseus and he had just slain the suitors. Despite the dream, Penelope still decides that she will choose a new husband- whoever can shoot an arrow through the holes of twelve axes set in a line.
