Central Nervous System
-
Drugs
-
Marijuana
A stimulant drug that slows the reaction time and impairs memory that affect the dopamine neurotransmitter.
Heroine
A stimulant drug that causes drowsiness and muscle pain that affects the inhibitory neurotransmitter.
-
Alcohol
A depressant that causes the loss of motor coordination and impairs judgment t and effects the GABA neurotransmitter.
-
-
Neurons
Dendrities
Receiving portions, short tapered and highly branched
Axons
Start as a single fiber, but may give off branches called collateral axon
-
-
Classification
-
Unipolar
Just one process, and are always sensory neurons (CNS) and cell bodies in ganglia
-
Functions
Integrative function
Analyzes sensory information, stores some aspects and makes decisions regarding appropriate behaviors.
-
-
-
Action potential
- Strong enough stimulation causes NA+ gates to open NA+ rush into cell causing depolarization and momentarily becomes + charged
- If strong enough, depolarization occurs threshold potential is reached (+30) and impulse is sent down axon.
- Nerve impulse is transmitted during action potential
- K+ rush out of neuron after NA+ rush in, which causes a repolarization of the membrane back o resting potential.
Ventricles/Fissures
-
Ventricles
Third
the midline, between the left and right lateral ventricles.
Fourth
extends from the cerebral aqueduct to the obex, and is filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
