Evaluation can hinder creativity. Brainstorming separates the process of creating ideas from the process of evaluating them.
Critical Thinking Concepts:
Actively and skillfully analyzing or evaluating information gathered or observed as a guide to belief and action
Sourcing
: looking at the source of the document to help interpret the reading before reading it
Corroboration:
Comparing different texts making connections and noting differences
Contextualization
: Understanding time, place people, and culture that is the context for the event
Argumentation

In order to make a case, you must understand your claims, as well as the opponent's case. This takes planning, evaluating, and reflection of both views
This allows students to process information deeply and monitor their understanding
