Implications of Online Services
Huge ammount of choice on the internet
Purchasing things online is easy day and night
Online fraud can be an issue
Products may not live up to expectations in real life
Allows people to choose from a range of competing websites
Some retail websites might steal your information or even repeatedly send spam mail
Less computer literate people may struggle to deal with online services
Rmote access opens up the possibility for hackers to breach security
Internet banking allows you to manage your finances from home/on the go
Banks don't need to have a physical place where people can go so they can save money on building and staff costs
Educaion & Training
Online education offers more courses than institutions
Not all online institutions are reputable and some qualifications won't be credited in a proper university.
Learning can take place in any location as long as you have an internet connection
Some people need the structure of a university to learn and will struggle to organize etc by their self
Learning can take place any time as long as you are on the internet
Cloud computing and storage allow you to access your work/files from anywhere allowing people to work from home or away if they need to.
You can collaborate with others on a task even if you are in completely different places.
This leads to a lack of contact with other people which is very anti-social.
We are relying on other people to store our data and important information which can be dangerous.
Entertainment & Leisure
You can watch what you want whenever you want with streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
You can download content that can be watched later on when you may not have an internet connection.
The amount of things pirated and copyright infringed is growing all the time. Anything can be pirated now.
Lock features and passwords may be required to stop children accessing inappropriate content.
News & Information
Online news is up to date as one person can update it from anywhere any time.
The news that comes out is only as reliable as the source they get it from, so if they are too fast they might not fact check it and the source might have lied/exaggerated etc.
If there are multiple news stations providing information one one subject it could become convoluted with too much information from numerous people
If you use it for information such as traffic information you can see before you leave the house if a route is going to be closed or not.
You can personalize your news feed so you only receive news that you want to receive, e.g. if you want football news you can get only football news.
As there will be many news outlets producing stories it can get confusing as they might contradict each other and you don't know what is true and what isn't
There are no queues which means that you won't have to spend hours at a time queuing outside of a cinema for example
There is less staff as computers can sell the tickets automatically without human requirement which leads to less staff costs
If you don't have an internet connection and there is an online only booking service you won't be able to access it.
If the site goes down or is too slow you might not be able to purchase a ticket such as a flight which can leave you stranded etc.
Tickets for movies, concerts or shows can be purchased online from the comfort of your own home or even from your phone.
