Practical Action Research Process
Statement of the problem:
We need to find ways to increase positive behavior and the engagement level of the students. Students during our residencies can be non-compliant, disruptive and have behavioral issues.
Research quesion:
What are ways to increase positive behavior and the engagement level of the students.
Collect Data
Quantitative
: Instruments used will be a demographic form, factual information instrument, and attitudinal measure instrument. Data collected from students and teachers.
Qualititative
: Observations of the class. Teacher will observe the class and record observations of student engagement and behavior. Text in the form of narrative journals from teachers and students.
Quantitative
: The data was analyzed through descriptive statistics. Results were boys in the class had an overall more negative attitude than the girls. Most had a positive attitude toward their Dancing Classroom’s instructor
Qualititative
: Codes will be assigned (reworking codes as they emerge) to the data to help identify patterns, major ideas, and themes. Results were that boys did not like missing P.E. class. Girls were embarrassed to dance in front of others. All felt that class should be optional.
Move the class out of P.E. and into music
Orientation is given by their Dancing Classrooms teacher
Students will be given opportunities for more input
Performance piece at the end of the residency will be optional.
Students will wear their name tag
The teacher will have lunch with students to increase individual interaction.

Analyze and interpret second data collection
