"the quality of knowledge is best measured by how many people accept it" discuss this claim with reference to two areas of knowledge
key terms
measured
what is considered a good measurment to measure knowledge? is the acceptance of knwoledge a good way to measure its quality?
quality **
what does it mean for knowledge to have a good quality? a knowledge with good quality is knowledge that can be used, that is valuable. quality = value in this case. the more people use it the more quality it has. good quality= the more people can get a use out of it
this is a big assumption and if this assumption would be wrong then a lot of my arguments/counter arguments might be wrong too. but i think that this point is relevant, and holds truth. the knowledge withing something needs to be extracted from it. the more people extract knowledge then the more perspectives would be about some knowledge because if more people see it then there is a chance that these people will have diferent perspectives. knowledge that takes into account all the diferent perspectives is better, because its more complet.
accept
what is requiered for something to be accepted? it can be that it is believed, that people think is true?
natural sciences
paradigm shifts
Alfred Wegner example: people didint believe him but that doesnt meant he was wrong. the knwoledge he could still be aplied to the real world. in that case knowledge is independent of the acceptance of people. geologist
counter claim: biologist believed Wegner so the quality of the knowledge went up because more people got a use out of that.

arts
the value of art does not depend on how many people accept it. I can like an artwork that no one like and because that artwork is valuable for me than it is quality knowledge.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/12/arts/uk-banksy-royal-exhibition.html
does the acceptance of people changed the quality of the artpiece. before being accepted the artwork wasnt useful for a lot of people. after being accepted more people looked at it, that means that more of the hidden messages where found. ( the art piece was about the united kingdom leaving the EU). so we can argue that in this case, when people accepted the artwork, because it was by banksy, then the value of the knowledge of the artwork increased, because more people used it. the quality of the knowledge was better becasue more people could get a use out of it.
counterclaim: the fact that it wasnt useful for a lot of people doesnt mean that it was quality knowledge. the quality of knowledge could be better if less people used it (algo que no sepan mucas personas) https://home.cern/about/who-we-are/our-people for example: in the particle collider of CERN. not a lot of people understand this topic but that doesnt mean it isnt quality knowledge.

Thesis statement: the relationship between the acceptance of the knowledge and its quality depends on how you define quality. how many people accept it?
