Earths changing surface
Earths continents have moved
around over millions of years
All the continents started off
as one big super continent
Evidence behind this theory
Fossils
Rock types
There are rocks found on both sides of the
Atlantic Ocean that are the same type and age
That means the rocks the are separated by the
Atlantic Ocean were once right next to each other
Mountains
Glaciers
There is evidence that there were glaciers in some
of the continents that are near the equator currently
Because it isnt possible for a continent that is near the equator to have glaciers, that means that those continents that are currently near the equator (with the evidence that it had glaciers) was once in a colder place
Fitting together
The continents act like puzzle
pieces that all fit together
Convection cell
There is heat and energy in
the mantle layer of the earth
The heat in the mantle rises up to the
crust, and is pushed sideways
This causes the plates in the lithosphere to
be pushed in the direction the heat is moving
Then the energy cools down and drops back down to
the core where the energy gains heat again

outer core
inner core
Plate boundaries
There are three types of
plate boundaries
Convergent boundrary
When two plates
are pushed together
Divergent boundrary
When two plates pull
away from each other
Transform boundary
When two plates slide
past each other
