Mood33 is a cannabis-infused sparkling tonic developed by BeyondBrands, a beverage incubator and accelerator. Mood33 offers mood-based benefits, with options like Joy, Calm and Passion. Each bottle contains 10mg of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and 5mg Cannabidiol (CBD) and was created for consumers seeking smoke-free cannabis experiences.
In October 2017, US cannabis-based company Tarukino introduced Happy Apple cider, infused with 10mg of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) per 120ml serving. Reportedly, one bottle of cider makes you “happy-go-lucky” high for a few hours, and it can also be used in cocktails, smoothies, and punch bowls.
In October 2018, Washington-based Bad Granny Cider introduced a speciality hard cider for fall – Cidermaster Reserve – made using the traditional champagne-making process, Méthode Champenoise. The barrel-aged cider was put through a secondary fermentation process to produce the signature “tiny bubbles” characteristic of the finest champagne.
In November 2017, Texan craft brewery Jester King introduced the new edition of its Spon Three Year blend, which features blends of 2014, 2015, and 2016. Inspired by authentic Belgian Lambic, the three batches were continuously fermented in different ratios. The beer clocks in at 6.0% ABV.
Wine
Brand owners of 'i heart Wines', Copestick Murray, announced a new UK campaign in May 2018. The digital campaign will be rolled out in stores and on the London Underground under a “light-hearted” theme, to promote its new 'i heart Sauvignon Blanc'.
Low-alcohol wine brand from Miami, 'Friends Fun Wine', is bringing its lifestyle to China, made available solely through e-commerce platforms. Founder and CEO, Joe Peleg, believes China is the perfect market for his brand because Chinese consumers embrace new trends.
US retailers Walmart, Kroger, and Target have begun launching inexpensive premium wines to attract consumers. These big-box stores noticed competitors Costco, Lidl and Trader Joe’s success in selling affordable wines. Walmart introduced a Winemaker's Selection range while Target introduced California Roots as low-priced quality wine.
In September 2018, sherry brand Harveys unveiled its new Bristol Cream bottle design, its first design update in 15 years. The new bottle features a thermochromic ink logo that signals when the bottle is at optimal serving temperature, encouraging consumers to rethink the way they drink sherry.
Liqueur
Coinciding with the 2017 Winter Solstice, Latvian drinks company Amber Beverage Group launched a premium liqueur, 'Riga Black Balsam' in the US. The liqueur is sold in ceramic flagons with the ambition to be a top-five premium brand of herbal bitters within five years.
Australian distillery, Kalki Moon, posted on Facebook that they would be giving away a bottle of Pink Gin Liqueur every day for a week. The unpaid post received an impressive reaction that saw the distillery having to create an “emergency batch” to meet demand.
Edinburgh Gin launched its Pomegranate & Rose variant in 2017. The new variant is “fast becoming one of Edinburgh Gin’s best-selling fruit gin liqueurs”, according to Neil Boyd, UK managing director of Ian Macleod Distillers, which bought Edinburgh Gin in 2016.
Diageo North America joined with US baking powder brand Clabber Girl to produce baking chocolate chips flavoured with Bailey’s Irish Cream Liqueur, dubbed 'Bailey's Baking Chips'. The non-alcoholic chips were made available through Amazon, accompanied by a free digital cookbook featuring recipes featuring the chocolate chips.
Spirits
Rock band AC/DC and Luxembourg-based Amber Beverage Group collaborated to create Thunderstruck Tequila and in November 2018 expanded its availability into travel retail. The brand launched in Gebr Heinemann Travel Free border shops across Europe. The tequila is bottled at 40% ABV.
Diageo has discontinued its miniatures range and in its place revealed The Pocket Scotch — a portable, compact bottle, perfect for sharing with friends. The 200ml plastic pack is available for Johnnie Walker Red and Black as well as J&B, Haig Club and Black & White.
In November 2018, India-based drinks company Radico released a new expression called Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin in the UK. The gin is made using eleven botanicals including coriander, vetiver, lemongrass, and Darjeeling green tea leaves that have been sourced from all four corners of India.
In November 2018, Edinburgh-based Old Curiosity Distillery released just 500 bottles of a new colour-changing gin, Pink Christmas, for the holiday season. Flavoured with cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon, the gin changes from a light blush to vibrant pink when mixed with tonic water.
