Sex-Linked Inheritance
most traits and genetic disorders are caused by autosomal genes
recessive alleles
must have 2 copies to have a disorder
will show up in parents who are both carriers
dominant alleles
less common than recessive
you just need 1 dominant allele — heterozygotes work too
chances of affected children
two affected parents can breed an unaffected child
if your kid has it, either you or their other parent has it
two unaffected parents cannot breed an affected child
sex-linked traits
traits whose alleles are located on the sex
chromosome
females pass on X, males pass on Y
X-linked traits are carried on the X chromosome
Y-linked traits are carried on the Y chromosome
Y chromosomes
few genes
won't be used in FOS2
X chromosomes
most sex-linked traits are on this chromosome
