Ali 2nd Grader
Tier 1
Positive Praise
Why?
Helps embed an internal desire to try, succeed, and persist
Some students need outward motivators
It helps keep students engaged
When
Give Positive praise as often as possible; according to research, should always be done with every student at a ratio of at least 4 positive praises to 1 criticism
Daily, I want to improve trust and rapport with student so that he becomes invested in his learning
-
Assign a Classroom Job
-
-
How?
Speak with the student about wanting to give him an assigned job and emphasize how important the job is and their participation
Unmotivated
Just sits in seat doing nothing when there is work to do
Only work when teacher is hovering over them telling them what to do or pushing them
Need to be frequently reminded to stay on task and to remember assignments
Not ask questions, volunteer, or participate
Not appear to enjoy school
Tier 2
Rewards System
-
When?
Daily, as often as possible to motivate the student to continue to work hard and stay on task
students demonstrate low and persistent motivation, effort, and interest they need a rewards system for encouragement
How?
Give the student the Forced Choice Survey 1 to determine what type of reward they prefer and will be most likely to work toward; if they demonstrate being unmotivated try to find things they like that will spark an interest
Tier 3
Check In Check Out
Why?
Improves student organization, motivation, incentive, and reward
internalizes success and accomplishment of goals
When ?
When a student demonstrates low motivation and effort
When a student is not participating, being involved, or taking part in the learning process
How?
students daily checking in with an adult at the start of school to retrieve a goal sheet and encouragement, teachers provide feedback on the sheet throughout the day, students check out at the end of the day with an adult, and the student takes the sheet home to be signed, returning it the following morning at check in
