Organ Histology
Small Intestine
Mucosa
-
Muscularis Mucosa
Dense bundles of muscles, deepest part of mucosa.
-
Submucosa
Duodenal Glands
Located in the submucosa, tubular shaped.
-
-
-
Ovary
Secondary Follicle
Very similar to a mature follicle, except has a very small, developing antrum.
-
-
Oocyte
Corona Radiata
"Radiating Crown", surrounds the zona pellucida.
-
Zona Pellucida
Protective coating around oocyte, and it looks pink.
Granulosa Cells
Round purple cells found in the mature follicle. The ones around the oocyte are termed corona radiata.
-
Primordial Follicles
Immature eggs, found along the edge of the cortex of the ovary.
Trachea
Mucosa
-
Lamina Propria
Runs next to mucosa, made of areolar connective tissue.
Submucosa
Made of areolar connective tissue, loose, and has white space.
Hyaline Cartilage
Common type of cartilage found in the trachea, among other parts of the body.
-
Esophagus
Mucosa
-
Muscularis Mucosa
"Folded" muscle, looks chunky.
-
Submucosa
Made of areolar connective tissue, loose, and has white space and blood vessels.
Muscularis Externa
Thick muscle, deep to the submucosa.
-
Stomach
Mucosa
-
-
Gastric Pits
Openings at the top, more squared off, and lighter in color.
Muscularis Mucosa
Deepest part of mucosa, multipple bands of muscle.
-
Submucosa
If the mucosa is thick, the submucosa will also be thick. Deep to the end of the muscularis mucosa, and has collagen fibers.
-
Serosa
Tissue of a serous membrane. In this case, visceral peritoneum.
Large Intestine
Submucosa
More than likely contain blood vessels, stained differently.
Lymphatic Nodules
Usually big, cloud looking, and is stained purple.
-
Mucosa
-
Muscularis Mucosa
Very thin layer, deep to the simple columnar epithelium.
-
-
Ureter
Muscularis
Very loose muscle, note it is only called muscularis.
Adventitia
Thick bundle of fibrous connective tissue, deep to muscularis.
Mucosa
Transitional Epithelium
Dome-shaped apical surface, "eyes" looking at you.
Lamina Propria
Thicker layer, you can see blood vessels.
Urinary Bladder
Muscularis
Muscle looks very messy, and is super thick.
Adventitia
Thicker than other organs, deep to muscularis.
-
Pancreas
Pancreatic Acini
Roughly circular stained structures, with a very small lumen.
Pancreatic Ducts
Simple cuboidal epithelium, found near connective tissue. Look for cracks.
-
-
Kidney
Medulla
-
-
Lumen
In between each kidney tubule, white space. More lumen in the medulla, and less in the cortex.
-
Cortex
Outer, inner part of kidney.
Renal Corpuscle
Glomerulus
Middle of renal corpuscle, a bundle of capillaries. Think "yarn".
Capsular Space
Space in between the glomerular capsule and glomerulus. It is unstained, and looks white.
-
-
-
-
Liver
Lobules
Stellate Macrophages
Found in between the sinusoids and hepatocytes. Slide looks very dirty, very black.
-
Hepatocytes
Liver cells, makes up the majority of cells in the lobule.
Central Vein
Roughly in the middle of the lobule, a white hole.
-
