All organisms must take matter from their enviroment to survive. That matter is called nutrients. There are 92 naturally occuring nutrients on earth and livving things only need a minority of those.
Essential Nutrients for Humans
Humans need around 20 different elements to be healthy. Most mass from the human body comes from these 6 elements; Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Calcium
Those 6 elements;
Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Calcium
are used to construct the
Carbohydrates, Nucleic acids (DNA, RNA), Proteins
and other molecules that make up our cells and carry out their chemistry
Essential Nutrients for Plants
Plants carry out thousands of chemical reactions simular to humans. Plants have around 17 different elements essential for them. They absorb most of their essential elements from the soil. The elements are usually taken up as positively charged catio or a negatively charged anion
The three key nutrients for plants are Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) . Comercially available fertilizers are labled with the proportions of each nutirents labeled as NPK Ratio
Lack of any of these nutrients will lead to nutrient deficiency
