Bandaging

Impregnated- petroleum gel, antibiotic- used for open wounds.

Absorbent- examples- thicker, colour facing wound, removes fluid from wounds.

Primary layer; Padding (Comfort/support/absorption)- Examples; Cotton wool- natural or man made. Sole padding material. Can be difficult to apply.
Padding bandage- Natural absorbent material. More prerable to cotton wool, good for limbs.
Synthetic bandage- Thinner and lighter. Good where less bulk is needed (casts, small pateints). Can cause sweating, not as absorbent.

Secondary layer- conforming (strength/contouring/security)- Loose open weave. No elastic component. Hold padding to anywhere on the body.
Conforming- Has elastic component. Cant be placed too tight, can cut of blood supply and cause swelling and death of tissue.

Tertiary layer- Protection (conforming/strength)- Adhesive- Thick cotton based with adhesive side. Good for foot bandages. Avoid direct application to skin and hair.
