INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TEAM(IST) Process Overview
When a student is exhibiting behaviors of concern that have the potential for long term considerations and not those that are one-off situations.
STEP1
Talk with the student
Talk with parents
Discuss student concerns at Grade Level meetings
...to develop and implement strategies for use in class and at home
Were the strategies successful?
NO
YES
Talk with current and past teachers
STEP2
Complete the referral form. Continue to keep detailed notes with evidence/examples of concerning behavior.
Don is the point person and will bring the situation to the attention of the IST at their next meeting, and a 'case manager' will be assigned.
The case manager will contact the referring teacher for further information and will meet with the referring teacher to help develop further strategies.
A time frame will be determined for each specific case. During the determined time, strategies will be implemented, students monitored, and notes kept by the referring teacher and case manager.
Were the strategies successful?
NO
YES
Great Job! File the notes along with the description of the strategies that worked and those that didn't work. INTERVENTION SUCCESSFUL. Report to other teachers on what worked.
STEP3
A time frame will be determined for each specific case, the case manager will continue to work with the referring teacher to develop and implement the next steps.
In the event of a continual concern, an Action Plan (AP) will be developed.
The IST case manager will lead in the development of this plan. All the teachers of this student will be included in the AP.
Along with the AP, there may need to be an adapted grading and reporting process implemented for the student.
