EBay Data Breach
A man named Austin Thompson went through with multiple DDoS attacks to major companies such as Microsoft and Sony. Their intent was to crash the servers by sending large loads of information to the server from multiple locations. They would then tweet from their Twitter account that they had crashed the servers.

DDoS Attack
Distributed Denial of Service Attack. Typically a virus installed on many computers (thousands) activate at the same time and flood a target with traffic to the point the server becomes overwhelmed.
