UNIT 5 : ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The study of how to make computer such as machines do things which at the moment people are better.
POSSIBLE GOALS TO PURSUE
System Thinking Rationally is the use of logic. Need to worry about modelling uncertainty and dealing with complexity.
System Thinking Humanly is cognitive modelling. Systems should solve problems the same way humans do.
System Acting Rationally is the study of rational agents. Agents that maximize the expected value of their performance measure given what they currently know.
System Acting Humanly is the Turing Test Approach. AI programs have to interact with people. These programs must behave according to certain normal conventions of human interaction in order to make themselves understood.
TURING TEST
To determine if a computer program has intelligence
Developed by Alan Turing in 1950
A test of machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from that of a human
INTELLIGENCE MACHINES
HUMAN LOGIC
Human exercise reasoning when solving problems to program computer so that it can engage in reasoning like that of human, the vast, complex world must be simplified
LOGIC THEORIST PROGRAM
The program succeeded in proving thirty-eight of the first fifty-two theorems presented in chapter 2 of Principia Mathematica
EXPERT SYSTEM
System which encode human expertise in limited domains
Eg : PUFF, PROSPECTOR, MYCIN, DESIGN ADVISOR
NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING
ELIZA is program stimulated a conversation between a patient and a physiotherapist by using a person's responses to shape the computer's replies
Semantic Information Processing (SHRDLU) is a program for understanding natural language
Script Applier Mechanism (SAM) is a computer program designed to understand stories that rely heavily on scripts.
ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK (ANN)
A system based on the operation of biological neural networks or emulation of biological neural system
ROBOTIC
A system that contains sensors, control systems, manipulators, power suppliers and software all working together to perform a task
