In Cracker!, Rick cares for others, is hard working, and perseveres through difficult times.
Caring
Evidence 1
On page 10 it says, “He fed Cracker, took her out to run a few times and down the alley, took her home.”
Analysis 1
This shows that Rick is cares a lot about the dog he is working with. This also shows that he spent lots of time with her. He spent time with her because Cracker was usually lonely whenever Rick wasn’t there. Due to the fact that he spent lots of time with her because she was lonely, this illustrates that he cares a lot about her.
Evidence 2
On page 220 it says that, “Can’t risk all these humans lives for a dog dead or alive.” Rick just stood there. “ All right, can you take the live one and I’ll stay behind?”
Analysis 2
This evidence illustrates that Rick cares for everyone, even dead animals. He cares for Trixie (the dead dog) because she saved one of his friends. He also promised his friend that he’ll give her a proper burial. The conclusion is that he puts people before him and care for them even more than he cares for himself.
Evidence 3
On page 245 it says, “I gotta find my dog.”
Analysis 3
This piece of evidence shows that he really cares a lot about his dog and ty to find him despite whatever happens. Rick doesn’t even know if his dog is even dead or alive but still tries to find her.
Hard Working
Evidence 1
Rick couldn’t physically find Cracker so he tried his best to heal as quickly as possible. He exercised his leg alot, even if no-one asked him to. The faster he recovered, the faster he’d be let out.
Analysis 1
This shows that Rick is persevere because he worked hard for a long time and didn’t give up exercising so he can get better to find Cracker.
Evidence 2
Rick wrote many letters to lots of people to find Cracker. He wrote to anyone he could think of for a week even though it took him a long time to write each letter.
Analysis 2
This shows that Rick is very persevere to find Cracker. This story is very different to what I usually hear. In the hospital, many people thought Rick is too obsessed with finding Cracker. Even though Rick disliked writing letters, he kept going and that helped Cracker return to Rick quicker.
Persevere
Evidence 1
At the beginning of the book, Cracker was very hard to work with and Rick said that they were one of the worse pair in the group. Although Cracker was tough, Rick kept trying and gradually, Cracker began to work with him.
Analysis 1
This shows that Rick is hard working because many people give up because the dog they were assigned to was tough to work with. Rick didn’t have much hope but he kept trying which shows that he was very determined and committed to whatever he does and want. Rick worked hard to make Cracker work with him and all that effort made Cracker the best dog in Vietnam.
Evidence 2
On page 232 it says, “It was hard work writing to a lieutenant colonel. Rick had to look up a couple of words in a dictionary to make sure he hadn’t made any mistakes. Sounded crazy, but he’d never realized how useful a dictionary could be.”
Analysis 2
I picked this evidence because it shows that Rick is hardworking and puts lots of effort in things he do. Looking up a words in a dictionary to make sure he hadn’t make any mistakes shows that he’s a careful person and works hard when doing anything.
Evidence 3
On page 170 says, “So why me?” “your reputation. Your sergeant said you’re the best there is.”
Analysis 3
This evidence shows that Rick is hard working because he’s the best out of all the men. U- Haul picked him because he is hardworking and its important to do good in an important mission. This also shows that he is respected because he does well in what he do.
