Hormone - chemical messenger

Endocrine Gland - anterior pituitary, pineal, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal

Endocrine Tissue - they all secretes hormones

Endocrine Cells - target cells - cells that have receptor which bind to certain hormones.

Target Cell - anterior pituitary, pineal, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal.

Anterior pit - glandular tissue - stimulate or inhibit release of hormone from anterior pituitary

anterior pituitary - stores hormones - made in the hypothalamus

Endocrine Glands

Growth hormone - stimulates growth of all cells + epiphyseal plate

Thyroid stimulating hormone - stimulate thyroid to release hormones

Adrenocorticotropic hormone - stimulates the adrenal cortex to release hormones

Gonadotropins - stimulate gonads to release hormones

prolactin - stimulation of mammery gland - a hormone released from the anterior pituitary gland that stimulates milk production after childbirth

Thyroid Gland - produces thyroid homone

Thyroid hormone - increase metabolic weight (nutrients to energy)

Calcitonin - produced in thyroid - only active in children decrease osteoclast activity

Parathyroid gland - produces parathyroid hormones

Parathyroid hormone - increases blood calcium levels when it detects low blood pressure.

Adrenal Cortex

Zona glomerulosa - secretes hormone called mineraloiarticiods

Zona Fasciculata - maintain blood pressure levels

Zona reticularis - secretes glucocorticoids "stress hormones"

Testes & Ovaries

Testes - secretes testosterone

Ovaries - secrets estrogen & progesterone
