- - - - "Find out what's on their minds: Be available and take an interest in what's happening at school, on the team, and with your kids' friends. Take casual opportunities to ask how it's going. As you listen to stories of the day's events, be sure to ask about what your kids think and feel about what happened. Highlight the positive. Ask your kids what they enjoyed about their day, and listen when they tell you about what goes great for them or what they had fun doing. Give plenty of airtime to the good things that happen. Let them tell you what they think and feel about their successes, achievements, and positive experiences — and what they did to help things turn out so well." (Gavin, 2018)
      - Teach relaxation techniques: deep breathing, counting to 10, screaming into a pillow, teach the student to identify when she is stressed, anxious or frustrated.
      - Praise students when she is able to solve a problem or get through a special event with no tears or emotional meltdown.
- - - - Redirect student when he is off track, misbehaving or playing during instruction time
      - I will allow student to taketime away from the group in a calm down spot.
      - I will practice deep breathing techniques to calm student down before/when he gets upset.
      - I will break down step by step instruction so that student isn't overwhelmed.
      - I will give positive praise when the student is meeting expectations!
    - - Create a feelings chart to manage emotional outburst. Help student work through feels by labeling how he is feeling in that moment. Model language so that the student understands how to use it.
      - Provide visuals around the classroom of schedule. Create a Now/Then chart to help the student understand what is happening around him to decrease being overwhelmed.
      - When the student is getting frustrated or overwhelmed, allow the student to take a break by removing himself from the area and practice breathing techniques. After about a minute. I will go over to the student and attempt to have the student talk through his frustrations.
    - - Teach conflict resolution skills by introducing idea to whole class via discussion, game or activity.
