        -people with certain chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, heart disease)

        -people with depressed immune systems (auto-immune disease, immunosuppressants, etc.)

        -sinus and ear infections
        -myocarditis
        -encephalitis
        -rhabdomyolysis
        -multi-organ failure
        -inflammatory disorders
        -asthma exacerbation
      - Signs/Symptoms:
        Clinical symptoms include respiratory issues such a a sore throat, cough, runny nose, and coryza as well as inflammatory/metabolic symptoms such as fatigue, malaise, fever, shivering, and headache.
        Upon assessment finding may include increased body temperature, catarrhal inflammation and redness, palpable cervical lymph nodes.
        Critical Assessment in children:
        -tachypnea/dyspnea
        -cyanosis
        -decreased fluid intake
        -difficulty rousing
        -abnormal irritability
        -fever with rash
        -absence of tears when crying
        -decreased fluid output/wet diapers
      - Diagnostic Studies:
        CBC with differential to check for infection associated left shift.

      - Treatments
        -antiviral medications: best taken within 2 days after onset of symptoms
        -increase fluid intake
        -symptom management: ibuprofen/tylenol (fever), antitussives, pain management, do not give aspirin to children
        -Precautions: stay home, wash hands, cover nose/mouth when coughing or sneezing, disinfect common surfaces #
    - - Cirrhosis: chronic liver damage
        -vitamin D precursors are activated in the liver

        1) Avoid interruptions during mealtimes and offer companionship: pt showed more interest in food when mother and brother arrived to keep her company
        2) Observe for potential barriers to eating such as willingness, ability and appetite: pt showed distress when left alone and denied being hungry

        1) Observe for factors contributing to powerlessness: therapeutically interview child/observe in age appropriate manner to see what they are afraid or anxious about regarding their care
        2) Encourage pt in goal directed activities that promote a sense of accomplishment: pt worked with the nurser who helped the pt hold the syringe and press the plunger down to flush her own G-tube
    - - Intervention/Evaluation
        1) Inspect and monitor skin condition at least once a day for color and/or texture changes: checked skin when diapering for redness/rash/irritation
        2) Use absorbent diapers and underpads to prevent skin breakdown doe to excessive moisture, and frequently asses/change: frequently asses diaper and changed if needed
