Positive Behavior Intervention - Kindergarten
Case Study #1:
Student is consistently unfocused and distracted during class. Student will often fall behind other students during class work. Student doesn't engage or look at people who are speaking, is always playing with pencil or their own clothing.
Tier 1 Interventions
Make physical contact
Praise when on task
Use a timer
Ask student to repeat instructions
Call on student frequently
Tier 2 Interventions
Peer tutoring
Daily Behavior Form
Scheduled breaks
Reward System
Case Study #2:
Student rushes through work. Student will frequently be the first to turn in assignments, however they work produced is messy, inaccurate, or incomprehensible. When asked, student cannot justify why certain answers were chosen. Student often asks when unstructured or break times will begin.
Tier 1 Interventions
Assign a buddy or partner
Make student repeat assignment directions back
Talk 1-on-1 with sudent
Allow student to take frequent breaks
Tier 2 Interventions
Daily Behavior Form
Individual and Visual Schedules
Teach Relaxation Techniques
Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)

Try multiple methods simultaneously and consistently
Continue with tier 1 interventions for at least six months before progressing to tier 2
Each method should be attempted for at least 4 weeks
Data should be recorded to monitor improvement
