CHAPTER 4: SELF-MANAGEMENT
Self-Management & Time Management
Self-management -
The extent of how an individual effectively manages his time, stress level, as well as his emotions.
Time management -
An analysis of how hours are being spent and tasks prioritized to maximize efficiency.

Become high achievers in all professions, Increase productivity and efficiency, and Lead to a balanced life and avoidance of stress
Keys to Effective Time Management
Have a to-do list and prioritize tasks.
Break-down tasks.
Set clear goals
Have a schedule or planner.
Make activity log
Delegate and share responsibilities.
Activity Log
It helps to analyse how you actually spend your time.
It will track changes in your energy and effectiveness in a day, and identify and eliminate time-wasting activities.
Stress
Any action or situation that places physical or psychological demands upon a person.
The goal is not to eliminate all stress, but to avoid unnecessary stress, and effectively manage it.
Stress Management is a proactive approach towards dealing with stress.
Causes of stress
Situations and pressure that cause stress are known as stressors.
Internal Factors -
Inability to accept uncertainty, pessimism, negative self-talk, Unrealistic expectations, perfectionism and Lack of assertiveness.
External Factors -
Major life changes, work, relationship difficulties, financial problems, being too busy, children and family.
Stress Signs and Symptoms.
Cognitive Symptoms -
Memory problems, poor judgement, seeing only the negative, anxious or racing thoughts, constant worrying.
Physiological Symptoms -
Aches and pains, diarrhea or constipation, nausea, dizziness, chest pain, rapid heartbeats, loss of sex drive.
Psychological Symptoms -
Moodiness, irritability or short temper, agitation, inability to relax, feeling overwhelmed, depression.
Behavioural Symptoms -
Eating more or less, sleeping too much or too little, isolating yourself from others, neglecting responsibilities, using alcohol, nervous habits.

Emotional Intelligence
The ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and actions.
Domains of Emotional Intelligence
Self-Management -
ability to manage one's emotions and the ability to control oneself while adapting to new changes.
Social awareness -
ability to understand other people's feelings and emotions.
Self-awareness -
ability of a person to understand his or her own emotions.
Relationship management -
ability to inspire, influence and develop others while managing conflict.
Self-awareness
People with high EL understands their emotions and they do not let their feelings rule them.
They are confident, trust their intuition and do not let their emotions get out of control.
They will take an honest look at themselves, know their strengths and weaknesses, and work on this area so that they can perform.
Self-Management
People with high EL usually motivated, highly productive, love a challenge, and are very effective in whatever they do.
They also have the ability to self regulate, not allowing themselves to become too angry or jealous, or make impulsive, careless decision.
Social awareness
people with high EL exhibit empathy, the ability to identify with and understand the wants, needs, and viewpoints of others.
Good at recognizing the feelings of others, managing relationship, listening and relating to others also avoid stereotyping and living their lives in a very open.
Relationship Management
People with high El have strong social skills and are typically team players.
Rather than focus on their own success they will help others to develop and shines, they can manage disputes, excellent communicators and a re masters at building and maintaining relationship.
