Network Performance
Bandwidth
The amount of data that can be sent and received successfully in a given time
NOT a meassure of how fast the data travels
Measures in BITS PER SECOND often called BIT RATE
How we measure performance
The error rate
high
packets re-sent
wireless inteference
longer cables = higher errors
age/ condition = higher errors
Transmission Media
Wireless "slower"
Wires "faster" but longer cables = slower and copper = slower and damaged = slower
slowed down/stopped by water metal and glass
Number of Users
More = Slower
too many = lower bandwidth
Latency (time bottleneck)
use same brand switches
