Time Out Log
A time-out log would be another type of consequence that could be used in the classroom when the student exhibits behaviors that are disruptive to himself and his classmates. This would allow the teacher to continue freely with the lesson without more interruptions and would also allow a time to talk with the child about their behavior and explain to him what you are writing on the log and how it will be sent home to his parents. This is just another way of keeping record of the child's behaviors to see if there are any trends as to when the behaviors are happening as well as keeping his parents informed. *time out for kindergarten students could be in a different classroom or a quiet, calm space away from other students to avoid embarrassment and ridicule. It also allows the other child to calm down and reflect on their behavior.
A child questionnaire would be a great way to gain some more information and insight about the child's home life. It would also be a valuable way to interact with the parents and communicate your concern. Having this type of written documentation is important to hold parents accountable for being consistent with goals and consequences that may have been previously determined in tier 1.
I would use my anecdotal notes as a way to document the students daily negative behavior and how it distracted them or others from their learning. I would also have a record of what their consequences were for the respective behavior and how they reacted to the consequence. These notes would be sent home to parents. This would be a way to keep home and school accountable for the tier one interventions decided before.
